Devtober Postmortem
Let's see...
Devtober was a great experience because it kept me motivated throughout the month. But this only happened because I joined a sort of "Devtober Party" among friends, so at least three of us kept working on our games pretty consistently and supporting each other the whole time.
It took me over a week after the month started to decide what project to work on. In the end, I decided to go with one of the GameDevHQ Pro courses, since I had been putting off my Unity learning for a while, I had just subscribed to the GDHQ membership, and was looking forward to getting started.
No regrets! Even though I wish I'd had time to create my own graphics and effects and use my preferred theme of a "Dragon Shooter," I still have a decent code-base to get started if I choose to pursue that project in the future. Given how many days I couldn't even sit down to continue with my entry, I'm satisfied with the amount of work I was able to complete.
What's next for this project? I'll add a full-screen mode, replace the low-res menu and splash screen graphics, add a wave system , object pooling for enemies and lasers, and continue polishing the experience. After that, I plan on using the code-base to start that mobile "Dragon Shooter" I want to make, and hopefully release it on the Play Store.
Thank you for Devtober!
